Sunsets

Everyone loves a good sunset. I have seen a few amazing ones in my travels but the best I have seen by far have been right out my front door over the paddocks. I’ve rounded up a few of my favourites from the past few weeks.

One of our first days at the farm

It’s so easy to take where we live for granted and get caught up in the rat race but I am reminded every night how lucky I am to live on such a beautiful property.

This world is magnificent!

Until next time,

Unearthing The Fireplace

Its gets pretty darn chilly in ol’ Bathurst, we knew we needed a fire but weren’t really keen on an open fireplace, nor were we on buying one of those boxy ones that have the flue sticking up the middle of the room. This is what we started with:

Demo time!

Some beautiful paint-work and red-brick by the previous occupants left us wondering what we’d find under there…

unearthing

Alas we found nothing but an old brick fire-place. I kept imagining the people who originally built the house, sitting around the fire after a long day working on the farm. It makes me feel a bit sad that we couldn’t keep it an open fireplace but it’s just not practical or safe.

ta-da!

Before tiles and paint job, it was looking promising but still had a long way to go!

paint-job

We were tossing up between painting the mantle/surround white or black. I had been thinking about painting the wall behind our bedroom a slate/navy/black kind of colour for a while so I thought it might be cool to reflect that (our bedroom faces the lounge room). We bought Dulux Domino and asked for an extra tint separately and added the dark part of the tint to get the most perfect colour I could’ve ever imagined!

Now for tiles (black/slate) and we’re all ready to snuggle up

Snuggle O’Clock

The picture in the middle is a self-portrait of my Great Grandfather Frank P. Mahony I come from a family or extraordinarily talented artists. My dad recently painted Lawrence and I a watercolour of our property, it is just incredible. I will post some photos once we find the perfect spot to hang that baby!

Until Next time,

“The Internet doesn’t have weekends”

Was what Lawrence said to me when I told him I hadn’t blogged in a few days ’cause it was the weekend’.

I went home to see mi familia for my mum’s birthday (Happy Birthday Mum!) then spent the weekend on nurse duty looking after the sick boyfriend (who still managed to yell that the internet won’t wait from his bed).

I am now anxiously awaiting results from a cadetship application i submitted last week- results come out tomorrow!

But for now, from where I’d rather be…

Inspiration Thursday

Todays inspiration post is brought to you by, ME!

Like most peeps I am into a little website called Pinterest (Oh, so you have heard of it! You can follow me here ) and can’t stop stalking. Pinterest it’s like the best bits of blogs in one place (I was probably the kid who loved picture books. Still am.).

I have always loved Ivy growing on houses, it seems very provincial and wayward, which in a world of over styling is music to my lazy ears!

Here are a few of my favourites:

Wishlist Wednesday: Yellow

Astrid Chair Dexter Lemongrass

Love this chair, unfortunately it only comes in this gorgeous baby poo yellow. From Freedom and only $299 (which is pretty darn good for an armchair)

Juju goodness

I love me some Juju particularly this little yellow number from Table Tonic priced from $236 (I can dream, that’s why it’s a wishlist…). You should also check out Louise Bell’s (TT curator) blog. Girl makes a mean green smoothie.
This room is incredible. I am a huge fan of black and white and the yellow throw & pillow look fantastic in the space!

Hope you enjoyed my first Wishlist Wednesday! Until Next time…

Essay Daze & Funny Friday

After talking to Lawrence about the blog last night he sighed and said, “It looks good, but you really do have too much time on your hands.”

While I would like to vehemently deny this, I can’t. I have so much time to go treasure hunting and be a lady of leisure, play badminton, watch daytime television, perve on the gardener, eat scones…

I digress, I usually have things I could be doing but choose not to because I am Queen Procrastinator (1988 to present). I prefer to leave assessments to the last-minute ’cause I thrive on the pressure and if it wasn’t for the 11th hour most things in my life wouldn’t be accomplished for a l-o-n-g time.

Lawrence is good at balancing me out; I like to create mess, he likes to clean; I like to cook, he likes to eat; I like to dream, he likes to do; I like to sleep in, he likes to get up early (and can often be heard around midday announcing that the day is already over). It’s a good combo.

On another note, I came across this hilarious page on tumblr called Text from Dog (It’s a bit explicit at times), here are a couple of texts:

The hutch/buffet/sideboard/whatever

We have a problem, a serious problem- lack of storage.

Currently our dining room looks like this:

shamozzle

When we’d he’d really rather it looked like this:

Ok jokes, for real this time:

In my dreams...

A few weeks ago I was at my absolute-all-time-favourite bargain-hunting locale and spotted a big timber hutch/buffet/sideboard/whatever and thought hells-to-the-yes I can D.I.Y this baby in no time and a week later (yes a week! It’s a D.I.Y. PB for me!) I am happy to say it’s almost finished (applause).

This was my inspiration:

Shmick white paint-job

Or moody black

It needs just one more coat of paint and the dining room can be used for dining and not storing (applause).

I’ll show y’all some progress pics today and hopefully this weekend when Mr Hutch/buffet/sideboard/whatever gets settled in and beautified he’ll knock your socks off.

In the shop, texting Lawrence to get his opinion

and no I didn’t by the silhouette bowls…

Man at work

So there you have it, only a few more sleeps to the big reveal! Ok, ok so I know I am more excited than I should be but I know it’ll look smashing and really begin to transform the room.

The first D.I.Y of the rest of my life…

It all started on a rainy day in a small town in the Central West…

Girl meets Boy.

Girl and Boy move in together.

Girl and Boy renovate house.

Girl and Boy have a baby (puppy).

Girl and Boy call said baby Louis.

Girl and Boy realise their house is boring.

Girl forces Boy on quest to turn house into home.

I’m Kate, maybe it wasn’t a rainy day but it certainly has been a whirlwind year!

Unfortunately my penchant for finding bargains means our shed is overflowing with soon-to-be treasures.

Armed with paint and patience (and a very skilled boyfriend), let the transformations begin!
